The Academy opens to students at 8.15am.
The school day begins at 8.40am and finishes at 3.10pm. This equates to 32.5 hours a week.

Uniform, Dress and Appearance
Following consultation with students, parents/carers, governors and staff, the School Uniform Policy, which was changed in September 2014, is now compulsory for all students at Hollingworth Academy.
At Hollingworth Academy we believe that school uniform is important in ensuring that children, whatever their background or circumstances, feel an equal part of the school community. We also believe that a smart, well presented uniform indicates a willingness to comply with school rules and is good preparation for learning.
The governors fully support the School Uniform Policy and require the Headteacher or his representative to be the final arbiter in all matters to do with uniform, dress and appearance. Parents/Carers and students are advised to consult with the relevant Head of Year if they are considering uniform, dress or appearance changes that might conflict with school policy.
Any student who arrives out of uniform; in unsuitable uniform; wearing inappropriate jewellery; or with an unsuitable hairstyle or colour may be removed from class or sent home immediately and parent/carer informed. The Headteacher or his representative will be the final arbiter on all uniform issues.

As a school we will be placing any donated items of uniform to our local charity shops in Milnrow. If supplying your child a full uniform is a problem then please contact their Head of Year and we will work to support the family.

CDT / Art / Textiles / Food Technology
Protective clothing as requested by the teaching staff. This includes footwear that complies with health and safety guidelines.
Makeup and Nails
Makeup must not be used by students in Years 7, 8 or 9. In Years 10 and 11, makeup must be subtle. The definition of ‘subtle’ lies with the Headteacher or his representative. Nails must be kept to a hygienic, safe length and not have nail polish/varnish, false nails or nail extensions. This is for health and safety reasons. Fake tan is not allowed.
Jewellery and Valuables
Students are allowed to wear a wrist watch and one pair of stud earrings which may have to be removed for health and safety reasons during certain lessons. No other jewellery should be worn. We recommend that watches and stud earrings brought into school never exceed a value of about £20. The school cannot accept any responsibility for the loss of valuables.

Teachers will not look after students’ jewellery.

FACIAL, TONGUE and BODY PIERCINGS or TATTOOS are not acceptable.
Students will be asked to remove inappropriate items of jewellery. Where students refuse, they will be removed from lessons until the items are removed and parents will be contacted.
FIRST OCCASION - Items confiscated and returned to the student at the end of the school day. It will be the student’s responsibility to collect any confiscated items.
SECOND OCCASION - As for first occasion and a letter will be sent to parents/carers informing them of the academy’s concerns regarding the student’s failure to conform to basic academy rules.
THIRD OCCASION - A student may be sent home immediately. If a student persistently ignores these rules the school will need to employ further more serious sanctions.
Electronic Devices – Mobile phones, MP3s, iPods, PSP, etc.
Whilst the academy recognises the safety value of mobile phones and so therefore allows students to have one on them: our policy is that electronic devices - including mobile phones – must not be used and must be switched off once students are inside the academy building.
If anyone is found to be using electronic devices or mobile phones during the day then it will be confiscated and not returned until the end of that academy day. On the third occasion of being confiscated, it will not be returned directly to the child. The academy will request that the electronic device or mobile phone is collected and signed for by a parent/carer of the child.
Persistent misuse of electronic devices or mobile phones will be dealt with more seriously.
Students are welcome to arrive from 8.15am and the Atrium serves breakfast from 8.15-8.40am.
The Atrium
From September 2013 the school has invested in its dining provision for all children. This was the result of a two year review carried out by the academy and external consultancies, which included visits to other World Class school dining provisions across Britain. The aims of Hollingworth's dining facility are:
- Healthy balanced diet.
- Increased menu choice.
- World cuisine – Experience a range of different food and flavours.
- Use of quality, fresh and local produce.
- All food is freshly prepared on site by well trained staff.
- Presented at restaurant standards.
To support these aims we have appointed an experienced chef (September 2013) to the catering team whose responsibility is the food production. They are working closely with the existing team to embed our aims throughout the full service.
Meet the Chef
Chef has 20+ years' experience in catering and has worked in 4 & 5 star hotels across Britain in chef roles. He has experience of creating menus, producing high quality dishes and developing kitchens for various types of mass catering. He believes in using the best, fresh and where possible local produce to enhance his food and delivering this to your child at restaurant standards. His aim, is to provide your child with a balanced diet throughout their school day which will include their Main Meal of the day, to hopefully support your busy home life in the evenings.
During Period 4 – all students will have a designated 30 minutes lunch session.
The school bus is controlled and managed by Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM). The bus timetable below is the service that will operate in September 2023. (This may be subject to change.)

We understand that replacing lost uniform and equipment is expensive and hopefully these guidelines will assist your son or daughter in retrieving any items they may misplace.
At Hollingworth students take responsibility for their own property. When students lose property they should visit and look in the classroom or area where they believe the property was left and check their locker. If they do not find their property they should then go to Pupil Reception.
All lost property with a name tag that is handed into Student Reception will be returned to its rightful owner. Lost property that is handed into Student Reception and is not labelled will be held for four weeks. At the end of this period the lost property will be disposed of.
If your son or daughter misplaces any PE kit at Hollingworth they should check the Lost Property at Student Reception and the Sports Hall. Items of lost property that are labelled will be returned to their rightful owners. Unlabelled items will be held for four weeks and then disposed of.
Please remember there are over 1300 students at Hollingworth wearing the same uniform. We cannot recognise items as belonging to a particular person if it is not labelled. If property is labelled, it can be promptly returned to its owner via Student Reception, thus avoiding distress and a costly replacement.
Name tags can be purchased from various outlets and can be sewn or ironed into students’ uniforms. If you do not have name tags, please write on the label or inside trainers or shoes with a good quality laundry marker pen or permanent marker pen. Please use full name or initial and surname, e.g. J Jones. Washing can erase marker pens, so please check that your son or daughter’s name has not faded on their belongings.
